All About Volcanoes
Hi we're E.J! This is our website. We hope you enjoy it and learn many
new things! Every picture has a link so you can click it and visit their website. We also have a link to some volcano song smade by Mr.Parr a science teacher, check out some of his other videos too! We hope you like it! This website will give you many information about volcanoes and much more about them too! We hope you enjoy our website!

Types of Volcanoes
First off there are a lot of different things to learn about volcanoes. We think one of the most important things to learn first is the different types of volcanoes. There are three main different types of volcanoes. They are shield volcanoes, cinder-cone volcanoes, and composite volcanoes.
Shield volcanoes are the first type we are talking about. A shield volcano is formed by lava flowing easily over and over. It flows through main vent and side vents. The shape of it is simaliar to the top of a metal trash can lid, (without the handle).
The picture above is of a shield volcano.
The next type of volcano we are talking about is cinder-cone volcanos. A cinder-cone volcano is formed by ash and cinders piling up around a main vent. It forms in a cinder cone shape. Cinders are volcanic rock that has melted and cooled and is formed in pebble sized pieces when thrown into the air. It is the most common type of volcano.
The picture above is of a cinder-cone volcano.
The last type of volcano we are sharing with you is the composite volcano. A composite volcano is formed by multiple eruptions. It's layers are made of alternating layers of lava and ash. They are tall and steep like a mountain.
The picture above is of a composite volcano.
Parts of a Volcano
One of the next most important things we think you need to know about is the parts of a volcano. The parts of a volcano is the magma chamber, pipe, main vent, side or secondary vent, and a crater. There are other parts of volcanoes, but these are the main ones.
The diagram above is of a volcano and the main parts of it labeled.
Extra Information You Should Know
The first extra piece of information we think you should know is hot spots. A hot spot is an area deep in the mantle where magma melts through the crust, like a shaken up soda bottle. Hot spots are often found in the middle of continental or oceanic plates far from plate boundaries.
The picture above is of a hot spot.
Another important thing you should know about is the ring of fire. Now I'm not talking the ring of fire you would see in a curcuis. The ring of fire in science is a major belt of volcanoes at the border of the Pacific Ocean. Volcanic belts form alony the plate boundries of Earth. They form by huge peices of crust converge or diverge, no the crust is fracured and weak allowing magma to reach the surface. This continues along plate bounderies or subduction zones.
The diagram above is of the ring of fire.
The next important thing you should know is what and how do lava plateaus form. A lava plateau is lava that has traveled long distances and evened out. The prosses of lava plateaus are lava from the main vent or side vents leack out. This lava travels very long distences. By doing this the lava evens out and that is how a lava plateau is formed.
The picture above is of a lava plateau.
